Treatment For Stress-Induced Jaw Pain In Reno

Treatment For Stress Induced Jaw Pain In Reno

Everyday problems cause some Reno people to respond by clenching their jaw or grinding their teeth. For example, daily commuting in Sparks can take a physical toll. All the traffic, noise, and perpetual road construction causes some people to grind their teeth as they navigate the sea of cars on packed interstates.

Some Reno residents who hate waiting in long lines channel their frustration to their jaw as they try, by the sheer force of will, to cause the line to move faster.

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching can cause a painful condition called TMD or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. In Reno, TMD is often mistakenly called ‘TMJ’: the acronym for Temporomandibular Joint.

Your jaw is able to open and close thanks to many jaw muscles and the intricate temporomandibular joints. These joints allow for fluid mobility as you chew, speak, and yawn.

Damage to these essential joints can lead to acute pain in the jaw, head, face and neck. Pain may be experienced on one or both sides of the jaw.

TMD is an often misdiagnosed condition in Reno because facial pain can result from a variety of troubles, not just damage to the temporomandibular joints. Sinus infections, tooth decay, and facial inuries can cause jaw pain. A correct diagnosis is the first step in treating TMD.

At The Reno Dentist we have been diagnosing and treating TMD since 2011, working with other specialists when required. If you are experiencing clicking, popping, or discomfort in your jaw, call The Reno Dentist today for a diagnosis and treatment plan.

I am Shane Sykes and I am devoted to providing high quality dentistry to the residents of Reno, Sparks, and Virginia City.

The Reno Dentist not only treats TMD, but we redesign smiles with revolutionary cosmetic dental smile makeovers. In addition, we offer cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, and dentures.

Your smile is contagious! Make sure it is healthy and beautiful. Call The Reno Dentist today at 775-323-0700 to schedule a consultation or examination.

Dental Implants In Sparks

Cosmetic Dentistry The best permanent tooth replacement treatment available to Reno people who are missing teeth are industry-leading dental implants.

A dental implant is a metal (usually titanium) rod implanted into the bone to replace the missing root. The crown and supporting structure are securely and permanently attached to the rod. Titanium is amazingly strong and extremely well tolerated by the human body. There are very few instances of rejection. In fact, many Sparks implant dentists are not familiar with any such cases.

Tooth implants offer a long-term solution to tooth loss. Are you a good candidate for tooth implant surgery?

Because the metal rod is anchored into the jaw bone, it is essential that you have enough healthy bone at the implant site. Dr. Shane Sykes can determine if you do. Age is rarely a factor. Dental implants have proved to be successful for Virginia City people of all ages.

There are a few medical issues that may affect your eligibility for implants. These include diabetes, osteoporosis, radiation therapy for cancer, parathyroid disorders, bone disorders and leukemia. The presence of one or more of these conditions does not necessarily mean an implant cannot work for you; discuss any health issues with Shane Sykes during your implant consultation.

The Reno Dentist is located at 855 W Seventh St Ste 200 in Reno. Call 775-323-0700 to schedule an implant consultation.

Oh No!

Last weekend I took my family and some friends rafting on the South Fork of the American River. The weather was perfect and we stopped on a sandbar to enjoy our lunch and take in the beauty of the river. After quickly eating a juicy watermelon the children set to work digging a complex trench system to “redirect the river.” I was watching their industrious and ambitious undertaking when I heard a sudden cry of anguish, “Oh no!” A younger sibling had

stepped a little too close and the soft, wet sand collapsed and filled in their trench. There was a brief moment of frustration and then I overheard one of them say “Hey, look at this guys!” as they explored new possibilities uncovered by the “disaster” moments before.  Their few moments of distress were forgotten and they smoothly changed course to a new project. This time they were going to dam the river!

How much we can learn from the example of these resilient children. Robert Collier stated “In every adversity there lies the seed of an equivalent advantage. In every defeat is a lesson showing you how to win the victory next time.”

The Irresistible Call of Sunrise

The above image is an early morning photograph I took of the Grand Canyon years ago. It was a breathtaking sight to watch the low-lying clouds pouring into the giant cleft in the earth like a celestial waterfall. Anyone who knows me well knows I am definitely a morning person, and nothing makes me more excited be ‘up and doing’ than a beautiful daybreak. When I wake up and see the radiant glow of the sun approaching the horizon, pressing its vibrant life into the astral darkness ahead of it, I feel the same stirrings within my own soul.

This morning as I stepped out of the house to go to the office I heard enjoyed the birds singing and savored the beautiful sunrise as I rode my bicycle to work in the crisp morning air. The whole world seemed to be bursting with energy and enthusiasm, begging me to get out and get moving with new life on this exquisite day. When the whole of creation is singing, how can you help but spring up and be part of the beautiful daybreak symphony?

And do you know what I love about Reno? Almost every single morning feels that way!

Brotherly Love

Last week my brother Mark celebrated his 50th birthday. As I prepared his birthday gift I pondered the many adventures we have shared together, savoring each memory as they drifted through my consciousness. Together Mark and I have had some pretty crazy adventures, from trekking for weeks through the jungle and climbing the highest peak in Brazil, to racing for 36 hours straight across the desert sands and waters of Lake Powell in an “Eco Challenge” type race, to hand-digging footers for stairs at his cabin at 10,000 feet elevation.

As I reviewed these wonderful scenes I realized how Mark has enriched my life. No matter what he is doing, Mark always makes sure he is involving his family and the people he loves. He works hard to build meaningful memories and he works even harder to ensure he is building those memories with people he can share them with for years to come.

To Mark, thank you for being my brother, my mentor, and my friend; and for enriching my life in so many ways.

To all my friends, thank you for allowing me to make you a part of my heart.

Who are the special people in your world that enrich and enliven your life? Make an effort this week to reach out, connect with them, and share your gratitude for them. Then share your stories with us!

Mastermind

I recently attended a mastermind group friends and colleagues, including my friend and mentor Garrett Gunderson, author of Killing Sacred Cows. For those who are unfamiliar with the Mastermind concept, Napoleon Hill said “The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony…. No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind [the master mind].”

In the spirit of the mastermind we all shared our challenges as well as what is working well for us, so that all may benefit. The experience was fantastic and worthwhile for everyone involved. We discussed great ideas to improve ourselves as individuals and enhance our patient care. You can take comfort in knowing that we are learning from the best of the best so that we can bring you the care you deserve.

Share with us! What are you doing that enhances your life? What can we do to serve you better?
