How Does Advanced Teeth Whitening Work?

There may be differences in the methods used by different professionals to whiten teeth. Professional teeth whitening procedures performed in-office go beyond simply cleaning the teeth. The system can significantly brighten the teeth’s color in just one consultation. Dentists may use gels, bleach pens, and specific toothpaste during bleaching operations. Carbamide peroxide is an oxidizing agent that can penetrate the dense tooth layers’ vital tissues using light, giving the teeth a lighter hue.

How To Make The Most Out Of Professional Teeth Whitening

Making The Most Out Of Teeth Whitening Treatment

Making the most out of the teeth whitening procedure begins with you. Our dentists in reno do everything they can to make your teeth whiter and healthier-looking in our dental office, but once you exit, the responsibility is on you to maintain them that way.

Though teeth whitening has been a known & famous treatment since the 80s, it’s consistently hard to say with certainty how long the results will last. It is because the longevity of the therapy depends so much on patient maintenance.

Below are some of the ways we recommend extending the teeth whitening treatment results and making the most of the money and time you spent on it.

Take Good Care Of Your Teeth

It may sound like a cakewalk, but it’s still important to note. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day, floss once a day, and plan routine cleanings once every six months.

Use Sensitive Products

After a teeth whitening procedure, it’s normal to experience tooth sensitivity to toothpaste, mouthwashes, or even food and beverages of specific temperatures. Be assured to use sensitive products on your teeth and keep away from eating quite cold or hot foods after your treatment.

Steer Clear Of Staining Foods & Beverages

Unfortunately, many people desire teeth whitening because specific drinks or foods have rendered stains to develop over time. One of the best methods to keep these stains from producing is to avoid foods and drinks that stain.

Quit Smoking

If you selected teeth whitening to help with nicotine stains, but you’re still attempting to choose if smoking is worth it, take this as a signal to quit. Smoking will quickly spoil your newly whitened teeth, which means you won’t be capable of making the most out of your teeth whitening treatment.

Water Is Your Best Friend

Rinsing with water is one of the most effortless and best things you can do for your recently whitened teeth. For instance, if you choose to give in and have a glass of red wine, make sure to swish with water later. Our Reno dentist suggests rinsing with water whenever you can; it’s a good & simple method to keep your bleached teeth happy.

Don’t Forget To Follow Up

You must not forget that even if you do everything correctly, your results won’t last for a lifetime. Therefore, follow-up treatments are usually a crucial element of teeth whitening upkeep.

However, never overdo it, as getting your teeth whitened too frequently can give you harmful results for your teeth. Our Reno dentists will help you decide just how often you have to come into our dental office for a touchup.

Why Sports Drinks Put Teeth At Risk In Carson City

Reno Dental Financing

Most health-conscious individuals in the Spanish Springs, Virginia City and Sparks area exercise regularly, and many turn to sports drinks for hydration.

While it’s true that they help maintain electrolyte levels in the body (and pose fewer health risks than energy drinks), their acidity can erode tooth enamel. And when tooth enamel erodes, those pearly whites are more susceptible to staining, discoloration, and decay.

Nobody wants stained teeth, so next time you’re at your Carson City or Virginia City gym, try substituting water for sports drinks.

If you have already experienced staining and tooth discoloration and would like to know more about porcelain veneers and teeth whitening in Reno, give The Reno Dentist a call at 775-323-0700.

Cosmetic Dentistry vs. General Dentistry In Reno

Cosmetic Dentistry vs. General Dentistry In Reno Hello, I’m Dr. Sykes Shane. Welcome to my Reno cosmetic dentistry blog. Today’s article focuses on the difference between general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

General dentists in Reno are dedicated to preventing and treating oral disease such as cavities and gum disease. When a problem is diagnosed, let’s say, a cavity between two teeth, a general dentist will assess the best way to restore the tooth involved.

Reno cosmetic dentists perform elective dental procedures that make a smile more attractive. Cosmetic dentistry procedures available at The Reno Dentist in Reno include teeth whitening, tooth-colored fillings, dental bonding, veneers, inlays, onlays, and dental crowns.

Some Reno dentists, like myself, offer both general and cosmetic dentistry procedures. In some cases, there is a cosmetic component to restorative procedures. For example, if a Reno dental patient comes in after receiving an injury that chipped a front tooth, the tooth needs to be restored to prevent decay. The tooth is also less structurally sound, so it is vulnerable to further damage. In addition, the tooth affects the overall appearance of the smile. Depending on the specifics of the damage, there are several of restorative options. Dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and crowns are all used to repair a damaged tooth.

As you can see, there is not always a definitive line between general and cosmetic dentistry. At The Reno Dentist, my knowledgeable team provides the full spectrum of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures. We treat Sparks area patients of all ages: from toddlers just beginning to get their baby teeth to mature clients who remember the days when many people were afraid of dentists and their whiny drills. (Some of our wonderful elderly Reno patients have crowns that are twice as old as our hygienists.)

Experienced Reno dental professionals who perform pediatric, general, orthodontic, and cosmetic dental procedures can meet all of your families’ dental needs.

If you are looking for a full-service dental practice in the Sparks area, I invite you to come into The Reno Dentist in Reno, We are located at 855 W Seventh St Ste 200. To schedule an oral examination or smile makeover consultation, call 775-323-0700.

Professional Teeth Whitening In Reno

Professional Teeth Whitening at The Reno Dentist A dazzling smile leaves a lasting impression. Professional whitening of teeth can dramatically improve your overall appearance and give you a boost in self-confidence.

Our teeth often turn yellow or gray as we age. The things we eat and drink continually such as colored sodas, coffee and red wine contribute to the staining. Most of us are aware that smoking is not only bad for our lungs, but can also discolor our teeth. There are even some medications that can affect tooth color.

If you are considering having your teeth whitened, you must first decide which method to use. At The Reno Dentist, we enjoy discussing treatment options with our patients. To schedule a consultation to talk about teeth whitening or any other dental procedure, call 775-323-0700.

At-home whitening treatments usually consist of trays filled with whitening solution. It generally takes 7-14 days to achieve 3-6 shades lighter. Brush-on teeth gels and whitening strips take up to 30 days to achieve results. Whitening toothpaste may lighten superficial stains but often provides no change in appearance of teeth.

Professional teeth whitening procedures performed by a dental professional achieve dramatic results that can last longer than other treatments.

All of the whitening methods may cause tooth pain or sensitivity, but this usually goes away in a few days. If you have crowns, porcelain veneers or dental bonding, it is important to talk to your dentist before choosing a whitening method.

Whitening vs Bleaching At The Reno Dentist In Reno

Whitening vs Bleaching At The Reno Dentist In Reno

Sparks teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dentistry service that The Reno Dentist provides in-office or through a take home kit. Results vary, but most patients experience significant lightening that lasts up to a year. Our Reno and Spanish Springs teeth whitening patients affirm that a whiter smile boosts self confidence and can take years of wear and discoloration away to reveal a brighter smile.

Teeth whitening and teeth bleaching, however, mean two different things. Surface cracks and stains occur on tooth enamel, exposing the yellower dentin below the surface. Discoloration can be the result of the natural aging process, illness, genetics, or dark colored food or drink. Foods and beverages that are both dark colored and acidic – like wine, coffee, and tomato sauce  – have even greater staining power.

Teeth whitener can refer to any product used to remove stains from tooth enamel: toothpaste, do it yourself strips, and certain mouthwashes are safe and inexpensive and can turn teeth whiter with continued, regular use. The extent of whitening varies, and it takes dedicated, consistent use to see results.

Whitening products that do not contain bleach can usually make teeth two to four shades lighter. These are a good choice for Sparks men and women with sensitive teeth and gums that can react to products containing harsher whitening chemicals. For pregnant or nursing mothers, the non-bleach whitening products are the safer choice.

Teeth bleaching is used to describe a tooth whitening product that contains a form of bleach, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, in varying concentrations. For best results, Sparks teeth bleaching should be done in-office by your Nevada cosmetic dentist. Bleaching can achieve more noticeable results, sometimes up to seven shades lighter. Intrinsic stains on the dentin, as well as surface stains can be effectively lightened under an experienced Sparks dentist’s supervision.

Mouthwash Facts In Reno

Hi, I am Dr. Shane Sykes and this is the The Reno Dentist blog. In today’s post I would like to discuss mouthwash. Many Nevada residents use mouthwashes to freshen their breath and help retard tooth decay. Mouthwash should never be used exclusively though, good oral hygiene starts with a thorough tooth brushing followed by flossing. Mouthwash is just a supplement in your dental hygiene tool box.

It is important for Nevada residents to know what kind of mouthwash they are using. Some mouthwashes merely mask bad breath while others help reduce the bacteria that causes plaque and bad breath.

If you are one of the Reno residents that suffers from bad breath it is important to choose a mouthwash that contains ingredients that help prevent tooth decay such as fluoride. But Nevada folks also need to use caution when using mouthwashes because many of the ingredients are dangerous when the recommended amount of mouthwash is exceeded.

Some of the poisonous components are chlorhexidine, gluconate, ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, and methyl salicylate. If you experience throat pain, vomiting, headache, or abdominal pain after using mouthwash, seek medical help immediately. The National Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) can answer questions if you feel have over used your mouthwash.

At The Reno Dentist we want everyone to have great smelling breath, but to use caution when treating their bad breath. Make sure to read your mouthwash label and follow all instructions given.

In addition to preventative dental care, The Reno Dentist offers a wide range of Spanish Springs cosmetic dentistry procedures. If you are a resident anxious to have a whiter, brighter smile, The Reno Dentist offers various teeth whitening in Reno options. The Reno Dentist also provide cosmetic dentistry and dental implants.

At The Reno Dentist we have been improving the smiles of residents in Reno, Sparks and the surrounding areas since 2011. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
