Do Veneers Make Teeth Look Bigger?

Spanish Springs cosmetic dental and tooth implants

A well-designed veneer does not make your tooth look larger – unless you want it to. A veneer can correct many cosmetic dental problems and is a minimally invasive restoration. During the placement of some porcelain veneers, an extremely thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth.

If you have teeth with damage, discoloration, an irregular shape or minimal to moderate misalignment, you have several dental remedies to choose from. Don’t worry if you feel that veneers seem to have more cons than pros for you. You have alternative options. We can analyze your smile, your needs, and your goals to develop a perfect plan.

The Reno Dentist offers the highest standard of dental care and the full spectrum of essential services including:

dentures
Invisalign
root canals
porcelain veneers
wisdom teeth extraction

The Reno Dentist has been improving smiles since 2011. We’ve scheduled Virginia City patients for restorative dentistry. We’ve served patients from Carson City with cosmetic dentistry. We’ve performed popular procedures like dental implants for our patients in Spanish Springs. And we can advise you on any restorative, preventative, or cosmetic procedure in which you are interested.

Ask us about invisible braces, the cost of a dental bridge, or how long it takes to whiten your teeth.

With our busy schedules, we don’t want a long wait to see the dentist. Dr. Shane Sykes’s team schedules carefully so we can keep your consultation convenient, pleasant, informative and thorough. Our staff is knowledgeable and equipped to do it right.

The Reno Dentist: When It’s Better Not To Brush

enamel erosion Sparks

Though thin and partially translucent, tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the body and has the critical job of protecting teeth from constant use and the continual assault from food and drink. The Reno Dentist in Reno NV reminds you that enamel also guards nerves from hot and cold food and beverages. That’s why enamel loss often causes sensitivity.

Cuts heal. Bruises fade. Broken bones mend. The body’s ability to heal itself is truly wondrous. But tooth enamel is different. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

This may seem counterintuitive, but sometimes it is better NOT to brush. Immediately after eating is one such time. Specifically, after eating acidic items. The acid weakens the enamel which can be further weakened by brushing. Waiting 60 minutes will allow the acid to dilute. Rinsing immediately after eating acidic foods is useful, however, because it washes away some food particles and speeds up the dilution of the acid.

Some people don’t realize that dry mouth can cause or exacerbate enamel erosion. The calcium and phosphate in saliva safeguards your enamel. When there is little saliva, the enamel is left exposed. Chewing stimulates saliva production but constant snacking is not the solution for dry mouth. Chewing sugar-free gum and sipping water regularly can stimulate saliva production between meals without increasing the risk of or upping your calorie intake.

Moreover, teeth grinding wears enamel away. If you are one of the many Reno residents who grind their teeth at night, it’s critical to get a mouthguard promptly. People who grind their teeth are at a high risk for enamel erosion and the cavities that can follow.

If you sip soda, tea, or coffee all day, we suggest you switch to water to halt any enamel erosion that has already transpired. It may be a hard change to make, but if you are successful, your teeth will thank you for it.

Using teeth as tools can damage enamel, as well. Take a moment to fetch scissors before tearing a package or ripping duct tape with your teeth. Do you really want to take a chance on chipping a tooth just to open a package of lunchmeat?

Chewing ice and hard candy can also impair enamel. If you simply must have sugar, soft candy is best as long as it is not left to sit on teeth for long period of time. If your molars are packed with gummy candy, it can lead to cavities which erode enamel just as effectively as chipping it with hard candy.

If you have enamel erosion or other dental problems, The Reno Dentist can help. Cosmetic dentistry can correct a host of problems. We also provide orthodontics such as Invisalign clear braces. To schedule a comprehensive examination, call our Reno NV office.

Straighten Teeth Fast in Reno

Spanish Springs Clear Braces Poorly aligned teeth? Think it takes forever for braces to straighten them? Think again. There are many new types of braces available in Reno. In some cases, teeth can be straightened in a few months and then, with braces off–a fantastic new smile.

If you are considering straightening your teeth, come into The Reno Dentist in Reno for an orthodontic consultation. We can discuss the new types of braces. Dr. Shane Sykes, DMD, will explain the pros and cons of each type and recommend the most effective (and quickest!) system for your teeth.

The first things most adult Sparks teeth-straightening clients ask about are the newer systems, sometimes called clear braces and adults braces. Invisalign is one brand name of alternative orthodontic systems popular in Spanish Springs and Virginia City. Many of our adult orthodontic patients have been embarrassed by their crooked teeth for many years and have developed a habit of covering their mouth when they smile. It is great to see them smiling confidently after they have completed treatment.

Younger clients usually have a different attitude about braces. They seem to consider braces more like a fashion accessory and are not afraid to show them off. Sparks area teens are interested in color braces and colored rubber bands braces. During orthodontic consultations, they usually ask about the possibility of a clear retainer to maintain teeth alignment after their braces have done their job.

Bright Purple Mouth When You Smile In Reno?

Invisalign Reno Remember when Reno adolescents undergoing orthodontic treatment were mortified by their metal mouth? Thankfully, those days are over. The teens of today wear their braces proudly and make no effort to hide them. They know they don’t need to wait until their teeth are aligned to flaunt a striking smile; they enjoy flashing their brightly-colored braces in all their glory.

Another plus? Just as they mix and match their clothes and shoes, teens can change their wires and bands every time they visit their Reno family dentist or orthodontist. Braces have become another fun way for fashion-forward teens to express their personality.

Of course, there are still some kids (and many adults!) that are not thrilled about having metallic fuchsia bands and neon yellow wires adorning their teeth. Discrete Invisalign aligners are virtually undetectable and straighten teeth just as quickly and effectively as metal braces. Another benefit of the Invisalign system is that the aligners are not permanently attached to the teeth. Invisalign aligners are easily slipped out for brushing, flossing, meals, and sports. If your Reno child plays a musical instrument that defies traditional braces, removable aligners may be the best option.

If you or one of your children need orthodontic treatment in the Reno area, call The Reno Dentist at 775-323-0700 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Shane Sykes. The Reno Dentist is located at 855 W Seventh St Ste 200, Reno NV. We also provide comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry. If you need affordable state-of-the-art dental care in Reno, let us tell you about our financing options.

Whatever your age, if you want to straighten your teeth, we have clear braces that will match every outfit in your closet!

Clear Braces – Nearly Invisible Teeth Straightening for Reno Adults

Clear Braces - Nearly Invisible Teeth Straightening for Reno Adults If you want to straighten your teeth or correct a bite problem, you have more orthodontic options in Reno than ever before. The current menu of orthodontic treatments requires a whole new glossary. Here are some of the common orthodontia terms heard around the Reno area.

Lingual Braces and Invisible Braces
These are sometimes described as ‘braces behind the teeth’. These braces are just as effective at realigning adult teeth as the traditional ‘metal and wires’ kind but are almost completely hidden. Many Reno adults and teens who straighten their teeth choose this type of orthodontia.

Invisible Invisalign braces work great for many Reno braces patients. To find out if lingual braces are the best type for your teeth, lifestyle and budget, schedule an orthodontic consultation at The Reno Dentist by calling 775-323-0700. We can help you determine which type of adults braces system is right for you and your smile.

Traditional and Clear Retainers
Once a Reno clear braces or traditional braces patient has completed treatment, retainers must be worn regularly to keep the beautiful straight teeth in their corrected position. There are several types of retainers available for Reno cosmetic dental patients. The time-tested Hawley retainer consists of a metal wire that surrounds the teeth and keeps them from shifting. The metal wire is attached to a molded acrylic form that fits snugly in the upper mouth (palate) or lower mouth.

Clear retainers are newer on the Reno orthodontic scene. They cover the teeth like a see-through glove and do not need metal bows or clasps. Some retainer wearers believe clear retainers are more comfortable than Hawley retainers.

You don’t need to suffer with a mouth full of metal to get the beautiful teeth you are seeking. Let us help you develop a custom treatment plan for your smile.
