Smile Perfection In Reno

Sparks low cost teeth whitening

“The most difficult part of attaining perfection is finding something to do for an encore.” – Author Unknown

We are committed to perfection at The Reno Dentist where we create perfect smiles for our Spanish Springs cosmetic dental and Virginia City smile makeover patients.

Here are some of the cosmetic dental procedures we use in smile makeovers at The Reno Dentist in Reno.

Implant Dentistry
Dental implants are the ultimate tooth restoration available in Sparks, Nevada or anywhere else, for that matter. A tooth implant consists of a metal post that is inserted into your jawbone. The post replaces the root of the missing tooth.

After a few months, it meshes with your jawbone to provide the strength and integrity of a natural tooth. A base and beautiful crown is permanently attached to the post. For most Sparks patients with missing teeth, it is the preferred restoration. Implants can also be used to attach dentures and partial dentures for innovative no-slip implant/denture combos.

Crowns
A mainstay of Reno cosmetic dentistry, dental crowns are more beautiful than ever. New fabrication technologies and materials have improved the aesthetics and durability of this restorative option.

Veneers
A dental veneer is a more conservative treatment than a full crown. This is a good choice for Spanish Springs patients whose teeth are structurally sound but have unsightly problems such as discoloration, chips, cracks, or imperfect shape. Are you one of the many Reno teens or Virginia City adults with dark tetracycline stains? Call us today at 775-322-5016 to say goodbye to tetracycline stains!

Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays (indirect fillings) are designed and developed using dental CAD/CAM software. These fillings are strong, attractive, and precisely fitted to the cavity.

Tooth Whitening
Teeth bleaching is the crowning touch for a brilliant smile. (It’s the only thing you need if you are a fortunate Sparks man or woman with perfectly-shaped and aligned teeth.) No one in Carson City or Virginia City has to live with dull or stained teeth. Call us today for a teeth whitening consultation at our Reno office.

Cosmetic Dentistry vs. General Dentistry In Reno

Cosmetic Dentistry vs. General Dentistry In Reno Hello, I’m Dr. Sykes Shane. Welcome to my Reno cosmetic dentistry blog. Today’s article focuses on the difference between general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

General dentists in Reno are dedicated to preventing and treating oral disease such as cavities and gum disease. When a problem is diagnosed, let’s say, a cavity between two teeth, a general dentist will assess the best way to restore the tooth involved.

Reno cosmetic dentists perform elective dental procedures that make a smile more attractive. Cosmetic dentistry procedures available at The Reno Dentist in Reno include teeth whitening, tooth-colored fillings, dental bonding, veneers, inlays, onlays, and dental crowns.

Some Reno dentists, like myself, offer both general and cosmetic dentistry procedures. In some cases, there is a cosmetic component to restorative procedures. For example, if a Reno dental patient comes in after receiving an injury that chipped a front tooth, the tooth needs to be restored to prevent decay. The tooth is also less structurally sound, so it is vulnerable to further damage. In addition, the tooth affects the overall appearance of the smile. Depending on the specifics of the damage, there are several of restorative options. Dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and crowns are all used to repair a damaged tooth.

As you can see, there is not always a definitive line between general and cosmetic dentistry. At The Reno Dentist, my knowledgeable team provides the full spectrum of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures. We treat Sparks area patients of all ages: from toddlers just beginning to get their baby teeth to mature clients who remember the days when many people were afraid of dentists and their whiny drills. (Some of our wonderful elderly Reno patients have crowns that are twice as old as our hygienists.)

Experienced Reno dental professionals who perform pediatric, general, orthodontic, and cosmetic dental procedures can meet all of your families’ dental needs.

If you are looking for a full-service dental practice in the Sparks area, I invite you to come into The Reno Dentist in Reno, We are located at 855 W Seventh St Ste 200. To schedule an oral examination or smile makeover consultation, call 775-322-5016.

“Sparks Dental Patients, Take Care Of Your Toothbrush!”

Sparks NV Residents: Your Family Dentist Cares About Oral Hygiene

The common household toothbrush. Every Reno home has at least one, and hopefully all Reno residents are brushing their teeth after each meal. While cosmetic dentistry and a complete smile makeover seem to be all the rage these days, daily brushing is still the most important thing you can do for your oral health.

It has been said that each toothbrush can contain millions of bacteria. But don’t worry, those bacteria come from our mouths, which harbor equal amounts of bacteria. For a person with a healthy immune system, these bacteria pose no threat.

However, a few common sense tips might keep any unnecessary germs from affecting the toothbrushes of Spanish Springs, Virginia City, and Carson City cosmetic dental patients.

First, be sure to store your toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible, and close the toilet lid before flushing. Each flush of the toilet releases a spray of bacteria into the air, so it’s best to just eliminate the spray.

Next, since bacteria like a moist environment, store your toothbrush upright and without a travel case so that it can dry completely between uses.

The American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush every three to four months. Brushing and flossing are the key to good oral health, and doing both each day will keep Sparks dental patients’ risk for gun disease, cavities, and bad breath low.

Keep your smile bright by visiting The Reno Dentist regularly and practicing proper oral hygiene.

Dr. Shane Sykes has been a dentist in the Reno area since 2011. We can answer any questions you have about cosmetic dentistry procedures such as tooth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental implants, and clear braces.

Time To Floss In Sparks

General Dentistry Work Can Be Avoiding With Flossing In Sparks NV

Many residents of the Spanish Springs, Virginia City, and Carson City area are finding that they just don’t have time to floss and that it’s difficult to fit it into their daily schedule. If you’ve found this to be true, here are some ideas for when to fit this important dental health habit into your day.

The most common time is right before bed, but make sure your aren’t too tired to do a good job.
Right when you wake up is also an option, but if food is left between teeth all night, it has a chance to turn into plaque.
Try just after lunch, but before you go back to work.
Floss while you are in the car sitting in traffic. It’s easier one-handed with the pre-strung floss pics. (You might get some strange looks from other drivers, but it’s worth it.)
After you exercise – keep some floss in your gym bag.
While you’re watching the nightly news.

I hope this gives you some ideas to help you make flossing part of your daily routine. Flossing is essential for anyone in Reno or Sparks who wants to have a healthy smile.

If you want to improve your smile, look into cosmetic dentistry procedures such as porcelain veneers, invisible braces, teeth whitening or Spanish Springs dental implants.

My name is Dr. Shane Sykes and I am a knowledgeable Reno dentist. Helping my cosmetic dental patients establish good habits is important to me, as well as helping them achieve the smile they want with cosmetic dentistry procedures such as veneers, teeth whitening and complete smile makeovers.

What Does A Missing Tooth Say About You?

Spanish Springs Dental Implants When you meet someone in Sparks who is missing a front tooth, what does that say to you? Do you wonder if they were in an accident? Do you automatically start making assumptions about their income, level of education and overall physical health?

Though it is extremely unfair, we are often judged (and misjudged) by our appearance. Even if a person is impeccably dressed and groomed, a missing front tooth detracts from the overall pleasing impression.

Here is a personal story from a woman who lost a tooth:

I lost my job and along with it my dental insurance, then a month later, one of my front teeth. It has been very hard to find work…. and I know the missing tooth has cost me several jobs.”

A missing tooth can be a big deal.

Dental implants not only restore oral health, they restore self-confidence. Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. Studies have shown that after more than 20 years, the vast majority of dental implants placed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons continue to function at peak performance. If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are one of the procedures we routinely perform at The Reno Dentist to help our Sparks clients regain the beautiful smile they once had. Not all cosmetic dental procedures are as extreme as teeth implants. There are many minimally-invasive remedies for unattractive smiles.

Porcelain veneers instantly provide a perfect, gleaming tooth surface for Sparks clients with broken or discolored teeth. Tooth whitening is a quick and affordable dentistry procedure in Spanish Springs that achieves dramatic results without requiring the removal of any tooth structure. Call The Reno Dentist at 775-322-5016 for more information about smile design and restorative dentistry.

Have A Large Cavity In Your Tooth?

Large Cavity? Spanish Springs Family Dentistry When Dr. Shane Sykes of The Reno Dentist in Reno repairs a tooth that has decay or damage, the procedure chosen often depends on the location of the problem. (We’re talking tooth-specific locale here; it doesn’t matter whether you live in Spanish Springs, Virginia City, or Carson City.) If there is a chip, crack or cavity on the biting surface of a tooth, an onlay or inlay is often used to restore the tooth.

Inlays and onlays are a type of tooth restoration used successfully at The Reno Dentist. They are usually bigger than a conventional filling yet smaller than a complete dental crown. An inlay is used to fill an area inside the cusp tips or bumps of a tooth. An onlay covers an area that includes more than one cusp.

At The Reno Dentist, the inlays and onlays we place for our Spanish Springs and Virginia City clients are indistinguishable from their natural teeth. Dr. Shane Sykes has the finely-honed eye for detail and complete mastery of cosmetic dentistry to create an exact match.

The Reno Dentist inlays and onlays:

  • Are stain resistant
  • Do not cause tooth sensitivity
  • Are beautifully matched to natural teeth
  • When bonded to the tooth, they strengthen the tooth and prevent further decay or damage

Teeth Whitening at Your Reno Dentist

Teeth Whitening At Your Reno Dentist Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to improve your smile in Reno. It is quick, affordable, and non-invasive. Though some Sparks NV area cosmetic dentistry patients experience short-term sensitivity, most experience no tooth whitening pain at all.

If you have looked into teeth whitening, you probably already know the basics. The one thing they have in common is that they use a solution containing peroxide to remove the stains that have settled in the natural microscopic cracks in your tooth enamel.

There are many DIY teeth bleaching products available in Reno and it seems like new ones appear every time you visit the toothpaste aisle at your local grocery or drug stores.

These tooth whitening strips and tooth whitening pens can sometimes whiten your teeth a few shades, but the peroxide concentration is much lower than the whitening solutions used in Reno cosmetic dental offices. It may not be strong enough for your tooth stains.

Tooth whitening offered at mall kiosks is risky, also. Most of these teeth whitening businesses have no professional oversight and the employees have little dental training. (Except instruction on how to take advantage of customer naivety.)

Dr. Shane Sykes recommends that you use extreme caution when considering a take-home tooth whitener. If you have tooth decay, gum recession, dental crowns, or veneers, you should deal with these issues before you whiten your teeth.

The portion of your teeth below the gumline, if exposed, may respond differently to tooth whitener. Likewise, the peroxide solution does not noticeably whiten crowns and porcelain veneers. If you use a DIY tooth whitener on teeth with extensive porcelain restorations, you should probably hope it doesn’t whiten too much–you may end up with a two- or three-tone smile!

Even though Reno teeth whitening seems fairly straightforward, your teeth deserve a professional opinion. After all, we are talking about teeth here. You can’t fix an uneven teeth whitening result like you can a bad hair-coloring job.

Schedule a tooth bleaching evaluation before you waste your money on more Crest White Strips. We can be reached at 775-322-5016.

Dental Sealants

General Dentistry Tools For Sparks NV Dental sealants are a thin coat of clear resin that is applied to the biting surfaces of teeth, usually the rear molars. The back teeth are more prone to cavities because is difficult to reach them with a tooth brush and the surfaces contain pits and grooves that easily trap bacteria. It is hard for many adults to clean their back molars and almost impossible for our young Sparks NV area children.

Dental sealants fill in the pits and grooves on the rear molars to create a smooth surface. Sparks NV family dentistry practices most often recommend sealants for children’s permanent back teeth, though sometimes they are used for adults, too.

Parents may not realize how quickly a cavity can form in a young child’s mouth. Many Sparks NV area kids that we see develop cavities even before they start kindergarten! It is vital that our local parents start regular general dentistry visits early. The American Dental Association advises that a child’s initial dental exam take place soon after the first tooth erupts, but no later than the toddler’s first birthday.

Dental sealants protect teeth that have no decay (primary prevention) and also prevent further decay progression in teeth that show very early signs of disease (secondary prevention).

At The Reno Dentist, we take special care of our family and cosmetic dental clients. We want each child’s dental visits to be pleasant and painless so they will never develop a fear of the dentist. We advise parents on the specific dental issues associated with each stage of childhood. Ask us about fluoride, sports mouthguards, and Invisalign clear braces.

I am Dr. Shane Sykes of The Reno Dentist. I don’t believe that childhood cavities are unavoidable. Call my office at 775-322-5016 to schedule a dental exam.

I provide comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry for Sparks NV area people of all ages. My office is located at 855 W Seventh St Ste 200 in Reno. You can learn more about my practice at https://www.therenodentist.com/about/our-office/.

Preventing Tooth Decay in Reno

General Dentistry and Tooth Decay In Reno In Reno, tooth decay is one of the most common childhood problems, yet tooth decay also affect adults. The Reno Dentist serves people from 25 to 80 years old to help fight tooth decay.

Bacteria are a common cause of tooth decay. Bacteria live in your mouth and combine with plaque and acids to break down the enamel coating on your teeth. The breakdown of your tooth enamel can often result in the development of small holes in your teeth which are known as cavities. The breaking down of your tooth enamel is known as tooth decay, and it is a serious general and cosmetic dental problem for children and adults in Reno.

Reno tooth decay is typically a result of diet and oral hygiene choices. When sticky foods are consumed and allowed to sit on the teeth, or foods full of sugars and starches are consumed frequently throughout the day, tooth decay can result. Foods to avoid include soda and sugary chewing gum; these foods tend to stay around for a while and create an environment where bacteria thrive. To help prevent tooth decay, simply limit sugary and starchy foods between meals. Also, brushing at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing at least once a day, and visiting your local Reno family dentist for regular check ups and cleanings will help prevent tooth decay.
